Three new films acquired at Cannes Film Festival 2008
The Works Media Group plc, the independent film distributor, announces today that it has acquired the multi-media UK distribution rights to three film titles following this year's Cannes Film Festival.
The first acquisition is the documentary Anvil; The Story of Anvil, which tells the story of the Canadian rock group Anvil, once labelled as the "demigods of Canadian metal." Critically acclaimed and the winner of best documentary awards at several film festivals, Anvil is anticipated to be distributed in November 2008 across the UK.
The Works has also secured two horror titles to add to its growing catalogue of films. The first of which is Scar 3D, a first of its kind 3D movie event. Following the recent success of animated 3D releases such as Beowulf and The Polar Express, the film is the first full length, live action film shot entirely in high-definition 3D. The Works plans to distribute the film in November.
In addition to this, The Works is also pleased to announce its acquisition of The Broken. Set in London, the mysterious thriller features Lena Headey (Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles, The Brothers Grimm, 300, The Cave), and is expected to be distributed across the UK later this year.
Norman Humphrey, Chief Executive of The Works commented, "These acquisitions again demonstrate our UK distribution arm's ability to compete for and secure the most exciting films at the key events in the film industry's calendar. The films are excellent additions to our catalogue which is central to The Works' strategy of acquiring rights to films that will generate revenues across all media platforms, giving us a high visibility of revenue going forward."
