Notification of interests of directors/persons discharging managerial responsibility and connected persons ("PDMRs")

Friends Provident plc announces the following purchases by directors of the Company of ordinary shares of 10 pence each in the Company:
Robin Phipps notified the Company on 18 March 2009 that on 18 March 2009 he acquired 70,000 ordinary shares at a price of £0.696 each. Following this transaction, Mr Phipps has a total beneficial interest in 70,000 ordinary shares in the Company.
Trevor Matthews notified the Company on 18 March 2009 that on 18 March 2009 he acquired 764,632 ordinary shares at a price of £0.653909 each. Following this transaction, Mr Matthews has a total beneficial interest in 764,632 ordinary shares in the Company.
Sir Adrian Montague notified the Company today that on 19 March 2009 he acquired 77,079 ordinary shares at a price of £0.6130 each. Following this transaction, Sir Adrian has a total beneficial interest in 83,747 ordinary shares in the Company.
The notification of these transactions is made pursuant to Disclosure Rule DR 3.1.4 R(1)(a) and is also deemed to be disclosure made in accordance with Section 793 of the Companies Act 2006 where appropriate.
