MARK GUNTER, GROUP RETAIL DIRECTOR, TO RETIRE

Morrisons announces today that Mark Gunter, Group Retail Director, has notified the Board of his intention to retire in June 2012.

Mark will remain as Group Retail Director until the AGM in June 2011 when he will step down from the Main Board. With immediate effect he will start a progressive handover of his responsibilities to Mark Harrison to ensure an orderly succession. Through this handover period Mark Harrison is nominated as Group Retail Director (Designate). From June 2011 until his retirement, Mark Gunter will continue to advise the Morrison Board and other Directors, at which point Mark Harrison becomes Group Retail Director on the management board.

Sir Ian Gibson, Chairman of Wm Morrison Supermarkets Plc, said:

"Mark has made an enormous contribution to Morrisons over twenty five years, with the last eleven years at Board level. He has been one of the architects of our growth from a strong regional operator to a national business. Mark is a great retailer and a valued leader and on behalf of colleagues throughout the business I would like to pay tribute to his achievements and loyal service over many years and wish him well in his retirement."

Mark Gunter said:

"I have had a fantastic career at Morrisons working with some great people. I am proud of what the company has achieved and have a tremendous sense of satisfaction with our success. The business is in good shape with a strong management team in place and I feel now is the right time to step back, and consider fresh challenges, and possibly take on some non-executive positions. For now I am looking forward to supporting Dalton and the Board in preparation for when I step down from the Board in June 2011 and leave Morrisons in June 2012."

Mark Gunter joined Morrisons from Asda in 1986 as Store General Manager in Southport. He was promoted to become Area Manager in 1990, and promoted again to Regional Director in 1993. He became responsible for all retail operations in 1999. He joined the Main Board of Morrisons in January 2000, serving continuously since. During his career he led the integration of the retail operations of the stores acquired from Safeway, as Morrisons tripled its estate from 124 stores to over 360. He began his career at Iceland, where he was the company's first management trainee

Mark Harrison joined Morrisons in 1985 direct from school. His initial position was an operative in the St Helens store and he has since held a broad range of positions within Morrisons giving him a wealth of retailing experience. His positions include being appointed as General Manager Southport in 1990, District Manager in 1999, Regional Director in 2002 and post the Safeway acquisition as Stores Director North in 2005. Most recently he was appointed as Stores Director in February 2010 and to the Morrisons Management Board in October 2010.
