D1 Oils Plc13 July 2007 13 July 2007 Professor Christopher Leaver CBE, FRSE, FRS Appointed as Non-Executive Director D1 Oils plc (D1), the UK-based global producer of biodiesel, is pleased toannounce the appointment of Professor Christopher Leaver, Sibthorpian Professorof Plant Science and Head of Department, Plant Sciences, Oxford University, as aNon-Executive Director of the Company. Professor Leaver is a leading expert in the understanding of the molecular andbiochemical basis of plant growth and differentiation. His significantscientific contributions include research into the molecular, biochemical andcellular basis of plant development. Professor Leaver was educated at ImperialCollege, London, where he gained his doctorate in Plant Biochemistry andMolecular Biology. He was a Fulbright Scholar at Purdue University, USA, and aLecturer, Reader and Professor at the University of Edinburgh. He is a VisitingProfessor at the University of Western Australia, and the holder of many awardsin his field. He was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1986, and wasawarded a CBE for services to plant sciences in 2000. Commenting on the appointment, Lord Oxburgh of Liverpool, Chairman of D1 Oilsplc said: "We are delighted that a distinguished scientist of the calibre of ChristopherLeaver has agreed to join our Board. Christopher's experience in the field ofplant science, and in particular in plant development and genetics, will be aninvaluable addition to the research and development programme for our principalfeedstock crop, Jatropha curcas. Jatropha is an under-developed inedible oilcrop that offers enormous potential for the development of sustainable biodieselproduction. Understanding the breadth and diversity of its geneticcharacteristics will be vital to realising that potential and ensuring that itcan be harnessed sustainably, and Christopher has much to contribute in thisregard."
