Dublin - 23rd March 2010 | Independent News & Media PLC ("INM" or the "Company") is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr. Bengt Braun to the Board of Independent News & Media PLC as a non-executive Director with immediate effect. Mr. Braun is also appointed as the newest member of the Audit Committee. Mr. Braun (64) is the vice-chairman, and former Chief Executive, of the Bonnier group - one of Scandinavia's largest, most integrated and successful media groups.
Consistent with the Company's commitment, Mr. Braun's appointment ensures that at least half the Board is now comprised of independent non-executive directors, thereby complying with the Combined Code on Corporate Governance. In addition, INM announces that its various Board subcommittees have been reconstituted to ensure full compliance with the relevant provisions of the Combined Code.

Bengt Braun, born 1946 in Stockholm, Sweden. Bengt became an officer in the Naval Academy in 1968. He received both a Bachelor of Law degree at Stockholm University and an MBA at the Stockholm School of Economics in 1970. He has held various management positions and has worked in many countries, including Finland, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Switzerland and the United States at Procter & Gamble 1970-1989. He was President and CEO of Tidnings AB Marieberg from 1989-1998, and president and CEO of Bonnier AB from 1998-2007. Bengt Braun is member of the board of Bonnier Holding, TV4, Bonnier Morning Paper, Hjärnfonden, AB Hufvudstaden, and Kabel BW in Germany.
