INM ANNOUNCES THE APPOINTMENT OF NEW

NON-EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

19 December 2011, Dublin/London: INDEPENDENT News & Media PLC ("INM" and/or the "Company") today (Monday) announces the appointment of David Reid Scott to the Company's Board as an independent non-executive Director.

Mr Reid Scott is an experienced international investment banker. He is currently Chairman of Stonehage Limited's advisory business. Prior to this he was Chairman of Hawkpoint Partners from 2001 to 2009, during which time the firm was transformed into one of Europe's leading corporate advisory firms. Between 2007 and 2009 he served on the Group Executive Committee of Collins Stewart Plc. He was a senior adviser to the Saudi Arabian Monetary Agency between 1979 and 1984. He holds a Masters degree in Modern History from Lincoln College, Oxford.

The appointment is consistent with INM's commitment to ongoing board renewal. The company recently announced the retirement from the board of Brian Mulroney.
