GKN Board Appointment
GKN plc is pleased to announce the appointment of Mike Turner, CBE as a non-executive Director with effect from 1 September 2009.
Mike Turner (age 60) retired as Chief Executive of BAE Systems plc in 2008 after over 40 years' service with the company. Since retiring from BAE he has been appointed non-executive Chairman of Babcock International Group PLC. He is also a non-executive Director of Lazard Ltd, Chairman of the Defence Industries Council (a group of leading defence industrialists and representatives of defence trade associations which represents the interests of the UK defence industry to the UK Government), Joint Chairman (with the UK Secretary of State for Defence) of the National Defence Industries Council and a member of the Government's Apprenticeship Ambassadors Network. He was a non-executive Director of Babcock International Group PLC from 1996 to 2005 and a non-executive Director of The Peninsular and Oriental Steam Navigation Company plc from 2005 to 2006.
Mike has an honours degree (BA) from Manchester Polytechnic and has received honorary degrees from Manchester Metropolitan University, Cranfield University and Loughborough University in recognition of his contribution to the development of the aerospace industry. He was awarded the CBE for services to the aerospace industry in the Queen's Birthday Honours in 1999.
