Altona Resources PLC08 August 2006 8th August 2006 Altona Resources Plc ("Altona" or "the Company") APPOINTMENT OF MANAGING DIRECTOR Altona Resources plc (AIM: ANR) announces Mr Christopher Schrape has beenappointed Managing Director of the Company, further to his appointment to theBoard on 4th July 2006, and the basing of the Arckaringa project management teamin Australia. Mr Schrape has over 25 years experience in the coal industry, including theposition of Chief Executive Officer of Western Australian based Griffin Coal,and 20 years with Rio Tinto in senior coal marketing and management roles. Mr Schrape will lead the Company's relationship with BP Australia Pty Ltd ("BPAustralia"), further to the recently signed Memorandum of Understanding with BPAustralia to work together in evaluating the development opportunities for theCompany's Arckaringa coal project. In addition to Mr Schrape, the Australian based Arckaringa project managementteam, includes Technical Director, Norman Kennedy, and advisors Bill McIntoshand Frans Bos. Mr Kennedy has been associated with Arckaringa since the early 1980'sprincipally as a consulting geologist, and has extensive knowledge of itsgeology and commercial aspects. Mr McIntosh is a widely respected mining engineer with over 33 years'international experience, principally in open cut coal mining developments. Mr Bos is a geologist with over 35 years international coal experience. Hepreviously held the position of Head of Exploration of Shell Coal Australia andAnglo Coal. Since 2002 he has operated as an independent consultantspecialising in coal geology, evaluations, resources statements and explorationplanning and management. He has a Master of Science in Geology and Soil Scienceand is a Fellow of the Australasian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy as wellas being a Chartered Professional (Geology).
