Balfour Beatty PLC26 February 2008 26 February 2008 STEVE MARSHALL TO SUCCEED SIR DAVID JOHN AS BALFOUR BEATTY CHAIRMAN Balfour Beatty plc, the international engineering, construction, services andinvestment group, announces today that Sir David John, who has served asChairman of the company since 2003, is to retire following the Annual GeneralMeeting of the company and the separate Class meeting to be held on 15 May 2008.Sir David John joined the Board of the company in 2000. Steve Marshall, who joined the Balfour Beatty Board as a non-executive Directorin 2005, will succeed Sir David John as Chairman following the AGM. Mr Marshall,who is 51, is currently non-executive Chairman of Delta plc and also anon-executive Director of Southern Water. He is a former Group Chief Executiveof Thorn plc and Railtrack Group plc, having served as Finance Director at eachcompany. Mr Marshall is also a former Chairman of both Queens' Moat Houses plcand Torex Retail plc. Previously, he held senior management positions at GrandMetropolitan plc, having spent his earlier career at Black & Decker, BurtonGroup, BOC and Parkdale Holdings. Commenting on the appointment today, Sir David John said: "I am delighted that Steve Marshall is to succeed me as Chairman.
