Bank of Ireland announces that Mr Ian Buchanan will retire as an Independent Non-Executive Director on 30 April 2026, having served on the Board since May 2018.
During his tenure on the Board, Mr Buchanan chaired the Remuneration Committee and the Transformation Oversight Committee, and served as a member of the Nomination & Governance Committee and the Risk Committee. He also served as a Non‑Executive Director on the Board of Bank of Ireland (UK) plc from September 2018 to December 2024.
The appointment of a successor to Mr Buchanan as Chair of the Remuneration Committee will be announced following receipt of the required formal approvals.
Akshaya Bhargava, Bank of Ireland Chairman, acknowledged Mr Buchanan's significant contribution to the Board since his appointment in 2018, saying that "Bank of Ireland has greatly benefited from Ian's experience, diligence, and commitment throughout his tenure. He has made a substantial contribution across his various roles, particularly in overseeing our IT transformation programmes and the remuneration changes following the partial lifting of restrictions in November 2022. His expertise and personable approach have left a positive and lasting impact on the Group."
