GKN plc - Chairman
GKN plc is pleased to announce the appointment of Michael J. Turner, CBE as Chairman of the Company to succeed Roy Brown, who retires as Chairman and from the Board, at the close of the Company's annual general meeting on 3 May 2012.
Mike Turner joined the GKN Board in September 2009 as a non-executive Director and was appointed Senior Independent Director in May 2010. He is a former Chief Executive of BAE Systems plc and is currently Chairman of Babcock International Group plc. He is also a non-executive Director of Lazard Ltd and a member of the Government's Apprenticeship Ambassadors Network.
Roy Brown said: "I am pleased that, following a thorough process, the Board has appointed Mike to succeed me as Chairman. Mike's wide boardroom experience coupled with his extensive engineering background makes him an excellent choice. I wish him every success in the role."

Michael John Turner, CBE (aged 63) has extensive experience of the aerospace industry, having worked at BAE Systems plc and its predecessor companies for more than 40 years. He joined Hawker Siddeley Aviation as an undergraduate commercial apprentice in 1966 and went on to hold a number of commercial, marketing and general management positions, culminating in his appointment as Chief Executive from 2002 to 2008.
He has significant boardroom experience, gained not only at BAE Systems plc but also through his appointments as non-executive Director (1996 to 2005) and Chairman (since 2008) of Babcock International Group plc, non-executive Director of The Peninsular and Oriental Steam Navigation Company plc (2005 to 2006) and non-executive Director of Lazard Ltd (since 2006).
Mike has an honours degree (BA) from Manchester Polytechnic and has received honorary degrees from Manchester Metropolitan University, Cranfield University and Loughborough University in recognition of his contribution to the development of the aerospace industry. He was elected a Fellow of The Royal Aeronautical Society in 1991 and was awarded the CBE for services to the aerospace industry in the Queen's Birthday Honours in 1999.
