Southern Water Serv (Finance) Ltd24 January 2008 January 24, 2008 No. 23 NEW SOUTHERN WATER CHAIRMAN Southern Water today announces that Bob Thian is to step down as Chairmanfollowing last October's acquisition of the company by Greensands. He will besucceeded as Chairman by Mike Welton. Mr Welton, a chartered civil engineer and a Fellow of the Royal Academy ofEngineering and the Institution of Civil Engineers, was previously Chairman ofconstruction materials group Hanson plc until its recent acquisition and is thecurrent Chairman of support services provider Global Solutions Ltd. A former Chief Executive of the international engineering, construction andservices group Balfour Beatty plc, Mr Welton is also a past Chairman of both theTurkish/British Business Council and the UK Government's Railway Sector AdvisoryGroup. He currently sits on the advisory board of Montrose Associates. Bob Thian leaves Southern Water, which provides water supply and wastewatertreatment services to four million customers across Kent, Sussex, Hampshire andthe Isle of Wight, after nearly five years as Chairman. During this time the company has achieved industry leading performance incapital programme delivery, the lowest level of leakage of the UK's water andsewerage companies and one of the most improved environmental records in theindustry. In December Southern Water was also the only company to win two awardsat the annual Utility Industry Achievement Awards.
