Philip Newton, is the former chief executive of Merchant Retail Group plc.Under his leadership Merchant Retail developed The Perfume Shop into one of theUK's most successful specialist retailers, with over 130 shops. It was acquiredby Hutchison Whampoa in 2005. During his career, he has had extensiveexperience across a range of retailing businesses as well as an activeinvolvement in the commercial property market. Tom Chandos, chairman of Capital & Regional, said: "Philip Newton's successfulrecord in both the retail and property businesses makes him a valued addition tothe Capital & Regional board. His entrepreneurial approach will be challenging and stimulating for our team and we are delighted that he has agreed to join theboard".
