Marks & Spencer Group PLC17 May 2005 17 May 2005 MARKS & SPENCER ANNOUNCES NEW CHAIRMAN Marks and Spencer Group plc is pleased to announce that Lord Burns will bejoining the Board as Deputy Chairman with effect from 1 October 2005 and willbecome Chairman from the AGM, in July 2006. Marks & Spencer Chairman, PaulMyners will step aside from the Board at the AGM in 2006, as he will no longerbe considered independent as a director under The Combined Code. Paul Myners said: "I am delighted that Terry Burns will be joining the Board andthat he will succeed me as Chairman of the Company. I look forward to workingwith him."
