Appointment of non-executive director
Beale plc is pleased to announce that Keith Edelman has been appointed as a non-executive director with effect from 23 September 2008.
Keith replaces Alison Richards, who died last year, as an independent non-executive director. He was managing director of Arsenal Holdings PLC from 2000 to May 2008, and was group chief executive of Storehouse plc (which comprised BHS and Mothercare) between 1993 and 1999. He also holds and has held a number of non-executive appointments, including chairman of Glenmorangie plc between 2002 and 2005, non-executive director of Eurotunnel plc between 1994 and 2004 and non-executive director of Qualceram Shires PLC from 2005.
Commenting on the appointment, Mike Killingley, Chairman, said: "We are delighted that Keith Edelman has agreed to join the Beales board. His breadth of general business and retail experience will be of great value to the business."
The Company also announces the retirement of Nigel Beale. Nigel's third three year term as a non-executive director expired in May 2008, but he kindly agreed to continue as a director pending the appointment of a replacement for Alison Richards. Nigel will leave the board on 31 October 2008.
On his retirement Nigel will assume the role of President of the Company.
Mike Killingley said: "This honorary position has been created to enable us to maintain Nigel's connection with the Company to which he has made such an enormous contribution over more than 40 years, 37 of them as an executive director, chairman, and latterly a non-executive director."
There are no further details to be disclosed under paragraph 9.6.13 of the listing rules.
