Thomas Cook Group - change to Executive Director's responsibilities
Thomas Cook Group plc announces the following changes to the role and responsibilities of Sam Weihagen, Deputy to the Group CEO and CEO Northern Europe, effective 1 January 2011:
·; Sam will be appointed Chairman, Northern Europe, and will be succeeded in the role of CEO, Northern Europe by Lars Lofgren. Lars, who will also join the Group Executive Board, is currently the Chief Operating Officer for Northern Europe and, during an orderly succession programme implemented over the last year, has demonstrated his ability to run the Segment and maintain its market leading margins.
·; Sam will remain in his role as Deputy to the Group CEO and continue as a member of both the plc Board and Group Executive Board.
·; In addition to the above responsibilities, Sam will chair the Thomas Cook AG Board in Germany and will retain responsibility for Group IT, as well as lending his support to the overall running of the business.
In his new role, Sam will reduce his time commitment to two and a half days per week (with commensurate reduction in compensation) and will retire from the Group at the end of 2011.
Thomas Cook Group Chairman, Michael Beckett, said "The Board benefits from Sam's extensive knowledge of the global travel industry and we are pleased that he will continue to serve for a further year".
Manny Fontenla-Novoa, Group CEO added "I am delighted that Sam has agreed to remain with us for a further year. In line with our succession strategy I am very pleased that Lars Lofgren, who has successfully demonstrated his ability to lead our Northern Europe Segment, will join our Group Executive Board".
