Director Appointment
Vietnam Infrastructure Limited ("VNI" or the "Company"), the first publicly traded fund to focus on infrastructure assets in Vietnam announces that the Board of Directors has appointed Mr. Rupert Carington as a new Independent Non-executive Director, effective 1 October 2012. The appointment of Mr. Carington to the Board will bring the total number of VNI Board members to four.
Commenting on the appointment, VNI Chairman, Mr. Paul Cheng stated, "Our decision to review the composition of the Board was made with the intention to bring an additional viewpoint and knowledge of emerging market funds to help deal with ongoing challenges facing VNI as well as to reinforce the Board's independence from the Investment Manager." Mr. Cheng added, "The experience and skills of Mr. Carington will be important in maintaining oversight and governance of the Company, further allowing the fund to generate and return value to shareholders."
Rupert Carington
Mr. Carington has run his own financial advisory business since leaving Morgan Grenfell & Co. Ltd., the merchant bank, after a 17 year career, including a period as Chief Executive of the Hong Kong office with responsibility for China. He is currently Chairman of Schroder AsiaPacific Fund Plc. He also sits on a number of boards and advisory boards of companies throughout Asia, Europe, North America, and the Middle East including those of SETE Technical Services, Alger Associates Inc., and Abdul Latif Jameel Co. Ltd. He is International Adviser to LGT Group Foundation. Mr. Carington's past directorships have included acting as Chairman of the Korea Asia Fund, Chairman of the Schroder Emerging Countries Fund, a Director of the Fleming Natural Resources Investment Trust and the JP Morgan Fleming Smaller Companies Investment Trust plc.
