Director Appointment

 

Vietnam Infrastructure Limited ("VNI" or the "Company"), the first publicly traded fund to focus on infrastructure assets in Vietnam announces that the Board of Directors has appointed Mr. Robert Binyon as a new Independent Non-executive Director, effective 2 September 2013. The appointment of Mr. Binyon to the Board will bring the total number of VNI Board members to five.

 

Commenting on the appointment, VNI Chairman, Mr. Paul Cheng stated, "Our decision to augment the composition of the Board was made with the intention of enhancing our knowledge-base in emerging markets with a veteran, South East Asia based director."

 

Robert Binyon

Early in Mr. Binyon's career, he joined Morgan Grenfell & Company Ltd, a London based merchant bank, in 1972 and held a variety of positions including lending and project finance, international bond and the capital markets divisions. Following this, he had two periods based in Geneva to run the Morgan Grenfell Bank in Switzerland and in 1985, he was appointed to the main Board.

 

In 1986, he moved to Tokyo to be in charge of Morgan Grenfell's operations in Japan. He was made a member of the Group Management Committee in January 1988 and assumed responsibility for the Group's operations in the Asia Pacific Region. He left Morgan Grenfell in 1991 and spent three years as Chief Executive and Managing Director of Tokai Bank Europe in London.

 

In 1994, he joined the Commonwealth Development Corporation (CDC) to run the Financial Markets Department which was responsible for the management of CDC's country and regional (SME focused) funds and its investments in banks and financial intermediaries.

Following his resignation from CDC in March 2003, he has held a number of non-executive Chairman and Directorship roles for Aureos, the SME private equity investment management company, for funds in Central and South Asia, South East Asia, China and Brunei. He is currently residing in Bangkok, Thailand and sits as the Chairman of GCP Australia and of Khronos Advisers in Thailand, Director of Schroder Asia Pacific Fund plc, Member of the Asia Advisory Council of GIMV and Treasurer of the Royal Society of Literature in London.
