InterDigital and DDD demo UHD video processing technologies at Mobile World Congress 2014

Los Angeles, California and Wilmington, Delaware: DDD Group plc (AIM: DDD, OTCQX: DDDGY, the "Group"), the 3D solutions and advanced imaging company, is partnering with InterDigital, Inc. (NASDAQ: IDCC), a wireless research and development company, to demonstrate next generation HD and UHD video processing technologies at Mobile World Congress, which opens on Monday, 24 February 2014 in Barcelona.

DDD and InterDigital teamed to develop a depth-based video pre-processing solution that delivers bandwidth savings in excess of 20% when streaming 2D video to Smart TVs and smartphones/tablets.

Pre-processing 2D video before it is encoded and streamed to the viewer can save over 20% of the bitrate required to deliver the equivalent unprocessed video. This performance improvement has enabled full 1080 HD versions of content to be delivered where conventional encoding techniques reduce the picture quality to 720 HD resolution based on the available bandwidth. Alternatively, these bitrate savings allow a provider of streaming video to reduce their bandwidth costs without compromising the picture quality of their existing services.

Demonstrations of the technology at the International CES in Las Vegas last month received a positive response from PC and mobile device companies who are seeking solutions to improve picture quality and performance for both streaming video and video conferencing applications. At Mobile World Congress, the DDD/InterDigital technology will be featured at InterDigital's pavilion in Hall 7 Stand 7A71.

Chris Yewdall, CEO of DDD, said:

"We are delighted to be working with InterDigital to leverage our combined expertise in the development of technologies that address the expanding market for streaming high definition and ultra high definition video content."

Scott McQuilkin, Senior Executive Vice President, Innovation at InterDigital, said:

"The increasing demand for streaming video on smartphones and tablets, coupled with the lower transmission speeds that are available to mobile users makes Mobile World Congress an ideal venue to showcase our leading edge video solutions."
