Scottish & Southern Energy PLC13 June 2007 SCOTTISH AND SOUTHERN ENERGY PLC ACHIEVEMENT OF EIGHT MILLION CUSTOMERS MILESTONE Scottish and Southern Energy plc ("SSE") has achieved eight million energysupply-related customers for the first time. This comprises: 5.03 millionelectricity customers; 2.87 million gas customers; and 105,000 telecomscustomers. It represents a net increase of 3.5 million (78%) since the start of 2002 and of150,000 since the start of this financial year on 1 April 2007. SSE achievedseven million customers in July 2006 and so has gained one million additionalcustomers in less than a year. SSE is the third largest supplier of electricity and gas in the UK and supplieselectricity and gas under Southern Electric, Scottish Hydro Electric, SWALEC andAtlantic brands. Ian Marchant, Chief Executive of SSE, said: "I have no doubt that this sustained growth is the direct result of our policyof responsible pricing, allied to best-in-sector customer service. Goingforward, we are committed to offering customers a combination of price, serviceand products which will enable us to achieve further growth during the rest ofthis financial year and beyond."
