Augean PLC
("Augean" or "the Group")
Creation of new business and appointment of unit director
Augean plc, one of the UK's leading specialist waste management business, is pleased to announce the creation of a new business division, Radioactive Waste Services, and the appointment of a new director.
Over the past two years Augean has become established as one of the leading providers of waste disposal services for low level radioactive wastes produced in the UK. Our customer base now includes many of the Site Licence Companies responsible for decommissioning the UK's redundant nuclear research and electricity generation facilities, North Sea oil & gas operators and certain industrial producers.
As announced at the Group's interim results, further growth in the available markets for treatment and disposal of low activity radioactive wastes from the nuclear and non-nuclear sectors forms a core part of the ongoing review of the Group's strategy, presenting an opportunity for further growth in revenues, profits and cash flows, enhancing the return from the capital employed to deliver these activities. In order to realise these opportunities and build on the existing business the Group has formed a new Radioactive Waste Services business, which will operate as a separate division within the Group, utilise the disposal facilities at the ENRMF and Port Clarence sites. The sites will continue to be operated by the Land Resources division. The new business will be led by Helen Simms, who has been appointed as Director of Radioactive Waste Services.
Helen has spent her entire career, some 19 years, in the UK nuclear business. As a Fellow of the Institute of Mechanical Engineers and a chartered mechanical engineer she has specialised in working in the decommissioning and defence businesses. Over the last 10 years Helen's key strength has been in transforming and growing businesses. She joins the Group following a successful career with AMEC, culminating in her role as the Nuclear Services business unit director, and more recently as Managing Director of Redhall Nuclear. Helen will become a member of the Group's Management Board and report Dr Stewart Davies, Chief Executive Officer.
Dr Stewart Davies, Chief Executive, commented:
"We believe the management of radioactive waste presents significant opportunities for the Group and the establishment of Radioactive Waste Services will provide us with a strong platform to exploit this growing market. I am delighted that Helen has decided to join the Group to head up the new division. She brings both technical and business management experience from her years with AMEC and Redhall, along with an excellent knowledge of the radioactive waste market which will be invaluable for the future of Augean plc."
Helen Simms commented:
"I am very much looking forward to working with my new colleagues in Augean; we have a fantastic ability to support the whole of the UK in dealing with radioactive waste. My focus will be to grow the radioactive waste services provided by Augean and in doing so support our customers to manage the waste from nuclear sites, oil and gas production, clinical and pharmaceutical sectors across the UK."
