British Land Co PLC20 April 2005 20th April 2005 British Land Corporate Responsibility Report 2004 British Land's 2004 Corporate Responsibility Report, published today, recordsfurther progress in integrating CR into the day to day management of thebusiness. Senior managers from all areas of the Company's operations haveaccepted responsibility for agreeing objectives and delivering on targets. Independent stakeholder research has identified five specific focus areas foraction: Tenant engagementResource useRegenerationBiodiversity andSharing good practiceall of which are being addressed as the Report shows. British Land's CR programmes bring demonstrable business benefits to theCompany, improving the Company's reputation with analysts, investors, lenders,employees, local communities and tenants, reducing risk and reducing costs byefficient management of resource use. Key features of the Report include the launch of the Sustainability Brief, aprocess that embeds sustainable design and construction in every British Landdevelopment; and working with the Carbon Trust to develop and implement a CarbonManagement Programme for the multi-let property portfolio. This enables theCompany to benchmark the energy performance of all multi-let buildings' commonareas, set targets to reduce carbon emissions and, as a result, make costsavings. In 2004, for the second year running, British Land was recognised as theFinancial Sector World Leader in corporate responsibility issues by the DowJones Sustainability Index.
