Scottish & Southern Energy PLC31 May 2006 31 May 2006Nr-6117 INVESTMENT IN WIND FARM DEVELOPMENTS Scottish and Southern Energy plc ("SSE") had entered into an agreement with I&HBrown Ltd to acquire two wind farm developments, comprising 98MW of capacity,subject to the necessary planning consent and electricity network capacity beingsecured. The sites are at Toddleburn (36MW) in the Scottish Borders and Calliacher (62MW)in Perth and Kinross. If planning consent for the projects is secured, andelectricity network capacity is secured for Calliacher, SSE will construct andoperate the two wind farms. SSE already owns and operates four wind farms in Scotland with a total capacityof 162MW. This includes Hadyard Hill in South Ayrshire which, earlier thisyear, became the first wind farm in the UK to generate over 100MW ofelectricity. In addition to the proposed wind farms at Toddleburn and Calliacher, SSE ishoping that its planning applications in respect of another five wind farms,with a total capacity of 263MW will be determined in the course of the nextyear. Ian Marchant, Chief Executive of SSE, said: "In the Prime Minster's words, wecan expect another 'big push' on renewables. Onshore wind farms have a big partto play in meeting the UK's energy goals, and this agreement to acquire sitescomplements our in-house development work.
