COBHAM WINS $8.6M AWARD TO DEVELOP CYBERSECURITY TEST AND EVALUATION TECHNOLOGY WITH DARPA

Cobham plc ('Cobham') is pleased to announce that the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) has awarded SPARTA a new R&D project worth $8.6m to develop the National Cyber Range.

DARPA's National Cyber Range programme is part of the Comprehensive National Cybersecurity Initiative, a major government-wide effort to increase the nation's defences against electronic attack. Every year there are tens of thousands of reported attacks and/or breaches of government and private computer systems. DARPA has been assigned the task of creating and operating the "National Cyber Range," a test bed consisting of computers and computer systems on which various cyber scenarios may be evaluated to provide a comprehensive, unbiased assessment of the security of information and automated control systems.

As an established leader in information security research and engineering for the Department of Defense, Cobham will work with DARPA and lead a highly qualified team of commercial, defence, and academic organisations to provide cutting edge solutions that enable protection of US cyber resources through in-depth analysis, test, and evaluation within the National Cyber Range. The Team consists of Cobham, Hewlett Packard, University of Southern California-Information Sciences Institute, L-3 Communications, Microsoft, Concurrent Technology Corp., University of Utah, Penn State University, Juniper Networks, BreakAway, Ltd., Sandpiper Software, Inc., University of Pennsylvania, Sentar, Inc., Skaion, Inc., and University of Kansas.

Allan Cook, Cobham Chief Executive said:

"We are delighted to be able to bring our expertise to support this vital national security initiative and lead such a distinguished team of commercial, defence, and academic organisations. Cobham, and our other team members in this venture, have been successfully working to counter sophisticated cyber threats for Defence and Law Enforcement customers for many years."
