Meggitt awarded contract for Boeing 737 MAX engine and Auxiliary Power Unit ('APU') fire protection
Meggitt PLC ("Meggitt" or "the Group"), a leading international company specialising in high performance components and sub-systems for the aerospace, defence and energy markets announces that Meggitt Safety Systems has been awarded a contract by The Boeing Company to design, develop, manufacture and support the fire protection system for the 737 MAX engine and APU.
The contract comprises the control computer, engine and APU fire detectors and the engine and APU fire suppression bottles. This contract demonstrates the opportunity to provide full Chapter ATA 26 system offerings enabled by the combined capabilities of the merged Meggitt Safety Systems and Pacific Scientific.
Boeing's newest family of single-aisle airplanes - 737 MAX 7, 737 MAX 8 and 737 MAX 9 - will build on the Next-Generation 737's popularity and reliability while delivering customers big advances in fuel-efficiency and environmental performance. Equipped with the new LEAP-1B engines from CFM International and improvements such as the Advanced Technology winglet, the 737 MAX builds on the strengths of the world's best-selling Next-Generation 737. Airlines operating the 737 MAX will see a 14 percent fuel efficiency improvement over today's most fuel-efficient single-aisle airplanes. First delivery of the 737 MAX is planned for 2017.
Stephen Young, CEO of Meggitt commented:
"This award further strengthens Meggitt's relationship with Boeing and continues our position as a leading supplier of reliable safety-critical equipment for extreme environments at a low cost of ownership."
