Atkins (WS) PLC11 May 2006 Atkins appointed by Dubai Metro Joint Venture as lead consultant WS Atkins plc (Atkins) has been appointed by the Japanese-Turkish Metro JV(JTMJV) as design programme manager and detailed designer for its design andbuild contract covering phase one of the Dubai transit system. JTMJV, together with Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI), form the Dubai RapidLink consortium (DuRL) tasked to deliver the operating railway. JTMJV hasengaged Atkins as lead consultant for all works comprising the phase one RedLine, including 26 stations (four underground), 53 km of viaducts and tunnellingand all associated infrastructure and building works. Atkins has based its management team within JTMJV's Dubai offices to direct andcoordinate detailed design, including civil, structural, architectural,mechanical & electrical and infrastructure works. A large dedicated design teamfor the project has been mobilised in Dubai and this will be supported byAtkins' offices in the Middle East, Hong Kong and the UK.
