Meggitt PLC19 December 2006 For immediate release 19 December 2006 Meggitt PLC ("Meggitt" or "the Company") Meggitt signs £50 million contract with QinetiQ Meggitt, the international aerospace, defence and electronics group, todayannounces that its wholly owned subsidiary, Meggitt Defence Systems has signed a20-year contract with defence and security technology company, QinetiQ, tosupply aerial targets and scoring systems for the Combined Aerial Target Service(CATS) for UK air defence weapons training. The UK CATS programme, of which Meggitt Defence Systems will be a key systemsprovider, will run for 20 years and generate approximately £50 million forMeggitt. Under the CATS contract, Meggitt Defence Systems will provide Banshee and Voodoofree-flying targets, pop-up helicopter targets, Microdops Doppler radar MissDistance Indicator (MDI) scoring systems and ground equipment including theHercules pneumatic launchers and Wizard ground control stations. Meggitt Defence Systems has provided long standing service to the UK Ministry ofDefence and has provided proven target systems to the world market. The Banshee200-knot aerial target system has been in service and fully integrated at UKranges since 1987. More than 5,000 Banshees have been produced for more than 40nations. The Voodoo 300-knot aerial target system, which has already been ordered bySpain and Norway, provides intermediate speed threat simulation andpre-programmed missions up to 120 kilometres. Meggitt Defence Systems' pop-uphelicopter target is an accurate 3-D target with rotating blades simulatingblade flash for radar tracking. The Microdops Miss Distance Indicator scoringsystem will be used on all targets within the CATS programme, including theMirach 100. Microdops is an ultra-lightweight Doppler scalar Miss DistanceIndicator used on a wide variety of aerial targets for air-to-air andsurface-to-air requirements.
