Aggreko lands major contract win in Saudi Arabia
Aggreko, the world leader in the supply of temporary power and temperature control, has signed a contract to provide 100 megawatts of temporary power to the Saudi Electric Company to help overcome seasonal power shortages in Saudi Arabia. The contract is expected to last for a minimum of three months and will take to over 170 MW the total capacity being supplied by Aggreko to SEC.
Aggreko's International Power Projects business which serves the requirements of power utilities, governments, armed forces and major industrial users is supplying the power at six sites in the Qassim region, north of the Saudi capital Riyadh.
The Middle East experiences extreme temperature spikes during the summer when mid-day temperatures in Saudi Arabia can exceed 50 ºC. Power demand from domestic and industrial users surges as they seek additional cooling from air conditioning and temperature control systems. As a result power shortages are common place and Aggreko's temporary power solution addresses this issue.
Aggreko has been operating in Saudi for over 10 years providing power for utilities and industrial customers.
Commenting on the contract Rupert Soames, CEO of Aggreko, said: "The award of this contract clearly demonstrates our ability to respond quickly to our customer's needs for reliable temporary power in very short timescales. We were able to propose an appropriate solution within just a few days and we will be supplying power to the people of Saudi Arabia within five weeks. Aggreko has been providing temporary power in Saudi Arabia for many years and I am delighted that once again we have been able to provide a solution."
