Contract win: Munich Olympic Hall roof system refurbishment

29 January 2009

Hightex is pleased to announce that it has been awarded the contract to replace the suspended membrane system of the Olympic Hall at the Olympic Centre in Munich, which hosted the Olympics in 1972. The Olympic Hall is regularly used to host exhibitions, concerts staged by world famous artists, and other events such as the well-known six-days cycling race every year. The total contract value for Hightex is approximately EUR 8.2 million, all of which is expected to arise in the year ending 31 December 2009.

After 36 years the triple layer insulated membrane system totaling some 18,500 square meters is to be renewed. The engineering, fabrication and installation works are required to be completed by the end of 2009.

The membrane system is installed below the transparent plastic sheet roof and requires a specific installation concept which Hightex developed for this purpose. Hightex was awarded the contract with a convincing technical solution for this prestigious project. Hightex has previously worked on several projects for the City of Munich and successfully completed another project last year.

Charles DesForges, Chairman, stated that "Hightex Group is delighted to have been selected for such a prestigious project. It is again a tribute to the Hightex philosophy of offering innovative solutions to the client."

About Hightex

Hightex has a long history of building large span roofs and facades using architectural membranes, exemplified by the Abuja Stadium for the All African Games in 2003 as well as the Berlin Stadium, Germany, used for the most recent FIFA World Cup Final in 2006. Hightex has been awarded the contract to provide the membrane roof as part of the upgrading of the First National Bank (FNB) Stadium in Johannesburg, which will be the stadium for several first and second round matches, one quarter-final and the final match at the FIFA 2010 Football World Cup.

In 2006 Hightex completed one of the largest membrane projects in the world, designing and constructing the energy-saving, sound-optimised, triple layer membrane roof for the Suvarnabhumi Airport in Bangkok, Thailand.
