Lonrho Plc wins £10.2 million contract for school classrooms in South Africa
Lonrho Plc is delighted to announce that its pre-fabricated building division, Kwikbuild, has won contracts totalling 123 million Rand (£10.2 million) for the supply and construction of 116 new schools for remote parts of the Eastern Cape of South Africa. The contract calls for the delivery of 398 classrooms, 8 laboratories and ancillaries to the Eastern Cape Province's Department of Public Works over the next four months.
Kwikbuild, one of the market leaders in building and supplying quality pre-fabricated classrooms in South Africa, will manufacture the classrooms in its facility in Cape Town. Kwikbuild has recently achieved a Level 2 BBBEE contributor rating in South Africa, verified by SEESA, a Government approved verification agency.
The buildings have a design life of 30 plus years and come fully insulated, keeping the classrooms cooler in hot weather and warmer in cold weather.
David Lenigas, Lonrho's Executive Chairman commented:
"There is a chronic shortage of adequate classroom facilities throughout Southern Africa and Lonrho is pleased that it can offer a solution to Governments to help address the current demand for this type of infrastructure.
Kwikbuild is seeing increasing demand for its products not only in South Africa but across the Continent. Quality pre-fabricated buildings are a quick and cost effective way to meet the demand for schools, clinics, offices and accommodation. The benefit of the prefabricated building is that it can be up and working in days rather than months."
