ArmorGroup International plc07 November 2006 ArmorGroup International plc Wins significant police mentoring contract in Iraq ArmorGroup International plc, the leading international provider of protectivesecurity services, today announces that it has been awarded a significantextension of its contract by the UK's Foreign & Commonwealth office to provideinternational police advisers to the Iraqi National Police. The contract has been extended until the end of June 2007 and coversArmorGroup's team of 100 international and local police advisers deployed in theBasra region of Iraq. ArmorGroup has been providing police mentors to supportthe development of Iraqi police structures since 2004 with its initial workfocused around establishing police bases in Basra and Muthanna province, thelatter now successfully handed back to the Iraqis. ArmorGroup's police mentoring teams, made up primarily of British former policeofficers, have worked with the Iraqi National Police to introduce a number ofnew ground-breaking initiatives such as: • building of the country's first juvenile detention centre; • creating Iraq's first national forensics department; and • developing a sustainable community policing strategy.
