Construction of solar project at Goonhilly Downs
Renewable Energy Generation Limited ("REG") (AIM: WIND), the UK renewable energy group, announces that it has signed an agreement with juwi Renewable Energies Limited for the construction of a 4.5MW solar project at Goonhilly Downs in Cornwall. The project, REG's first ground-mounted solar PV scheme, will utilise spare capacity within the existing grid connection secured when REG repowered the Goonhilly Downs wind project in 2010. The project is expected to cost in the region of £5m to build and is expected generate around 5.5GWh electricity per annum. REG hopes to complete construction of the project by the end of Q1 2014.
Andrew Whalley, Chief Executive Officer commented;
"We have been looking into the merits of leveraging our existing grid connections for some time and we are excited at the opportunity to operate the project alongside the existing Goonhilly Downs wind farm. With juwi as our EPC contractor and long-term O&M provider, REG has access to years' of experience in the solar sector from which to draw upon. REG is continuing to assess the feasibility of building further solar projects to make use of existing or anticipated grid connections".
