INTELLIGENT ENERGY TO LEAD CONSORTIUM TO DEVELOP ZERO-EMISSION COMMERCIAL FLEET VEHICLE
Intelligent Energy, the energy technology company, is pleased to announce that it is leading a UK industry consortium to develop a new class of zero-emission, light commercial vehicle.
Highlights
· Intelligent Energy will lead the consortium alongside partners including British Gas, DHL, Frost EV, Millbrook and CENEX.
· Project to develop validated systems ready for volume manufacture
· Three year project to cost £12.7m, partly funded by a £6.3m grant from the Advanced Propulsion Centre
By integrating Intelligent Energy's industry leading fuel cell technology into battery electric vehicles, the consortium aims to allow the production of low carbon Light Commercial Vehicles with significantly improved range and rapid refuelling.
This project is a continuation of the Motive Division's development of low carbon Light Commercial Vehicles following the launch of zero emission London taxis in 2012 (http://www.intelligent-energy.com/automotive/case-studies/london-taxi-company).
Managing Director of Intelligent Energy's Motive Division, James Batchelor, said:
"The calibre of partners underlines the level of confidence in the advantages of and commercial opportunities for fuel cell solutions for electric vehicle application. Ever tightening legislation to decarbonise road transport and the accelerating roll out of hydrogen refuelling infrastructure, provide a real commercial imperative for the widespread adoption of hydrogen fuel cell technology."
Jon Beasley, Director of Technology and Projects from the Advanced Propulsion Centre, located at the University of Warwick, said:
"Our aim is to position the UK as a global centre for low carbon propulsion systems development and production. This consortium of British companies is helping the APC to deliver its aim with this innovative project that uses hydrogen fuel cell technologies. It has the potential to deliver a viable zero-emission vehicle for fleet operators around the world."
