Commissioning of Plant

21st Apr 2008 10:55

Watermark Global PLC21 April 2008 Watermark Global plc ("Watermark" or the "Company") Commissioning of the second pilot plant 21 April 2008 Watermark is pleased to announce the commissioning of its second pilot watertreatment plant today by its wholly-owned subsidiary, Western UtilitiesCorporation (Pty) Ltd ("WUC"). The plant was designed and built by AtomaerTechnologies who will also operate it for a minimum period of three months. Theplant will provide detailed information on water quality, mass balances, including by-products generated by the process, operating costs and capitalcosts required that could form part of the commercialisation phase. The plantwas constructed on a modular basis, using a patented technology, developed byMINTEK over a period of nine years called SAVMIN. The SAVMIN technologycomprises five stages and is based on the selective precipitation of insolublecomplexes at different stages during the process. SAVMIN has a number ofadvantages, most notably: • It can treat a wide spectrum of polluted mine water (i.e. from gold, platinum, coal and base metal mines); • It regenerates the required Al2(OH)3 reagent for reuse, which results in a significant cost reduction; • The process uses readily available reagents (sulphuric acid, lime and aluminium). The storage and handling of these reagents is well understood The Directors expect to provide further updates during this period on the massbalances, operating and capital costs requirements which will form part of thetechnology selection process for the construction of a 75 megalitre per dayplant which will have the potential to be expanded to 200 megalitres per day.
