Circle Holdings PLC: CEO Appointment
The Board of Circle Holdings PLC is pleased to announce that Steve Melton has been appointed as the permanent Chief Executive Officer, effective immediately.
Steve assumed the role of Interim Chief Executive in December 2012, having served as Circle's Head of Mobilisation and Head of Operations respectively since joining Circle in February 2008. He has played a significant role in many of Circle's key achievements, including leading the successful opening of the Bath and Reading hospitals in March 2010 and August 2012, and the initiation and successful re-bid on the Nottingham Treatment Centre contract. He also led the final phases of bidding, negotiation, and mobilisation of the Hinchingbrooke contract.
Prior to Circle, Steve gained over 22 years experience of leading transformational change and business excellence programmes. Previous roles include Supply Chain Director and Head of Operational Excellence at Argos, and Supply Chain Director at Scottish Courage Ltd., where he managed over 3,000 staff and a £165m cost base. Steve was also a key leader in the ASDA turnaround team during the late 90s. He began his career on Unilever's Management Trainee Program, and held a number of roles internationally at Unilever. Steve holds an MA (First Class) in Chemical Engineering from the University of Cambridge. He is a member of the Institute of Chemical Engineers and a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport.
Commenting on the appointment, Michael Kirkwood, Circle Holdings Chairman, said: 'Steve has a strong track record of successful delivery and driving operational performance, and the Board has been impressed by the capable leadership demonstrated during his interim tenure. Under his stewardship, we have been awarded preferred bidder status on our key Nottingham contract, and improved group efficiency through an effective head office re-structure. I believe Steve has the right skills to lead Circle through the next phase of execution and growth.'
Steve Melton said: 'I am delighted to have been asked to lead Circle. I have long been a passionate advocate of Circle's vision and values, so relish the challenge of steering the next phase of its development. Our strength lies in our common sense approach of putting doctors and nurses in charge, and our Partnership's ability to unleash innovation that improves patient care. I am confident that this combination will produce many opportunities for Circle in the years ahead, and enable us to deliver for all our stakeholders.'
