CHANGES TO NON-EXECUTIVE DIRECTORS
Cable and Wireless plc ("Cable & Wireless") today announces the following changes to its Board of Directors:
John Barton will join the Cable & Wireless Board as a Non-executive Director from 9 March 2009. As part of this role, he will join the Audit and Remuneration Committees. John is Chairman of Next PLC, the retailer, and Brit Insurance Holdings PLC. He is also a non-executive director of WH Smith PLC;
Agnes Touraine will step down as a Non-executive Director of Cable & Wireless immediately following the 19 May 2009 Board meeting due to an increase in her other commitments. Agnes joined the Board in January 2005 and is a member of the Audit and Remuneration Committees.
Commenting on the Board changes, Richard Lapthorne, Chairman of Cable & Wireless said:

John Barton biography
John Barton has been the Chairman of Next PLC since 2006. He joined the Next Board of Directors in 2002 and was Deputy Chairman from 2004. He is also the Chairman of Brit Insurance Holdings PLC and a Non-executive Director of WH Smith PLC. He was formerly the Chief Executive of JIB Group plc and Chairman of Jardine Lloyd Thomson Group Plc and Wellington Underwriting plc.
Agnes Touraine biography
Agnes Touraine was appointed a Non-executive Director of Cable & Wireless in January 2005. Based in France, Agnes is Managing Partner of Act III Consultants. She was previously Chairman and CEO of Vivendi Universal Publishing and has held various senior executive positions with the Lagardere Group and McKinsey. Agnes was appointed as a Non-executive Director of Neopost SA on 10 July 2007 and of ITV plc on 8 August 2007. She is a Board member of Fondation de France and until recently, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of SAIP/Liberation.
