Change to NYSE ticker symbol

RIO TINTO PLC: CHANGE IN TRADING ("TICKER") SYMBOL

Rio Tinto plc today announced that it will change its NYSE ticker symbol from RTP to RIO at the commencement of trading on Tuesday, 12 October 2010.

The change in ticker symbol to RIO aligns with the Company's ticker symbol on the London Stock Exchange and Rio Tinto Limited's ticker symbol on the Australian Securities Exchange.
