Carriers and Network Equipment Vendors Leverage Spirent Test Systems for Next Generation Network Deployments

30th Oct 2007 13:00

Spirent Communications plc (LSE: SPT), a global provider ofperformance analysis and service management solutions, today announcedseveral new enhancements to its portfolio of next generation networktesting solutions that ease deployments of converged networks andservices. These include Packet Data Gateway (PDG) testing on SpirentLandslide and Bearer Independent Call Control (BICC) protocol testingon Spirent Abacus 5000. These new features will be highlighted at FallVON 2007 in Spirent's Hospitality Suite # 157 A. £ Competition and consolidation is forcing service providers andnetwork equipment vendors to expedite the deployment of successfulnext generation networking technologies, such as IMS and WiMAX, whileensuring the highest quality of service and subscriber experience. Thenew features introduced on Spirent Landslide, Spirent Protocol Testerand Spirent Abacus 5000 enables the industry to overcome thecomplexities of testing these converged technologies. £ "Next-generation network architectures allows users to easily movebetween networks be they wireless or wireline. However, with this easeof use, come numerous technical challenges," said Andy Huckridge, director of Next Generation Networks (NGN) solutions marketing atSpirent Communications. "Spirent's NGN test solutions are specificallydesigned for multi-protocol and multi-application test cases, toensure faster test cycle times and reduce product development time." £ Today's consumers demand access to interactive content at anytime, from anywhere and from any device - be it a computer, television setor a PDA. Ensuring subscribers have access to the services they paidfor and at the quality level they expect is critical for nextgeneration network service providers. Validating the performance ofthe PDG, which is the entrance point to the mobile core, is essentialto successful service delivery. With the Spirent Landslide PDG testingoption, carriers can test for performance and accuracy of secureaccess to the 3GPP packet data core via the PDG. Performance testingcan be done in the lab, prior to deployment so as to avoid anysurprises when new services and applications are rolled out. SpirentLandslide also allows modeling of the customer experience for securetransmissions. £ To deliver interactive content and applications, service providershave to migrate from circuit-switched TDM networks to high-capacitybroadband multimedia networks. A smooth transition is only possiblewith the accurate performance testing of the BICC protocol byequipment vendors and carriers. Spirent is introducing BICC protocoltesting on the Spirent Abacus 5000, which allows customers to simulatemobile voice traffic to VoIP and PSTN all within a single testenvironment. £ Spirent has also introduced several other capabilities to its NGNtesting portfolio including IMS AKA/IPSec testing and enhanced supportfor XML, SIP, XCAP and Diameter testing on the award winning SpirentProtocol Tester; IMS Security, PDIF, CDMA Convergence, and PCRFtesting on Landslide; and AMW-WB (G.722.2) voice codec testing onAbacus 5000. £ Spirent Protocol Tester has received numerous awards including IMSMagazines 2007 IMS Leadership Award, Test & Measurement Worlds'"Best-in-Test" Award and Internet Telephony's 2006 Product of the YearAward. £ About Spirent Communications plc £ Spirent Communications (www.spirentcom.com) is a global providerof integrated performance analysis and service assurance systems thatenable the development and deployment of next-generation networkingtechnology such as Internet telephony, broadband services, 3Gwireless, global navigation satellite systems, and network securityequipment.
