Unparalleled punctuality combined with record passenger volumes in April
· Last month was Heathrow's busiest April on record, with close to 7.1 million passengers travelling through the UK's only hub airport - up nearly 6 percent on the same time last year and making it the first April to ever surpass the 7 million mark
· Service levels continued to climb in parallel with our passenger numbers - thanks to the hard work of our colleagues and Team Heathrow partners. Year-to-date Heathrow has recorded the highest departure punctuality out of the major European hubs, 99% of bags travelled on their flights as expected in April and 97% of passengers waited less than five minutes at security. This collective effort results in a smooth passenger experience and excellent value for our customers
· The Easter getaway produced bumper passenger numbers. Almost 1 million people flew through over the bank holiday weekend, culminating in our busiest ever arrivals day with over 140,000 passengers landing on Easter Monday. Notably Italy performed particularly well, with record weekends for Florence and Venice
· May has already delivered another milestone moment with the Heathrow-JFK route - the busiest long-haul route in the world - hitting its millionth passenger of the year in record time, further cementing the airport's status as the best-connected airport to North America
Heathrow CEO Thomas Woldbye said: "Last month showed Heathrow at its very best - we successfully navigated our busiest April ever whilst our service levels took a further leap forward. We're providing great value for our passengers and I'm proud of what we've achieved in collaboration with our Team Heathrow partners so far this year. We're now firmly focused on the busy summer ahead and work is underway across the airport to ensure we continue delivering for our customers."
