VPhase briefs Minister on 'Smart Volt' advantage for 26 million UK homes
VPhase plc (VPHA.L), a leading developer of energy saving products for residential and commercial properties, is pleased to announce that its Executive Chairman Adrian Hutchings has briefed Rt. Hon. Ed Miliband, MP, the UK's Energy and Climate Change Secretary, on the energy-savings benefits of the VPhase Smart Voltage Management product. The briefing took place on Friday, 15 May, and occurred in the same week that Mr Miliband announced the UK Government's plans to roll out smart meters across 26 million homes and several million businesses over the next 10 years.
At the briefing Mr Hutchings informed the minister that the VPhase Smart Voltage Management product could add 'smart volts' to smart meter applications, significantly increasing both the energy saving and environmental benefits of installing such meters in isolation. Whilst the first VPhase product is due to go on the UK market as a stand-alone product, Mr Hutchings assured the minister that VPhase would enter into discussions with smart meter producers to enhance their products with its 'smart volts' solution.
Unlikesmart meters, as soon as the VPhase device is installed consumers will start reaping its energy-saving benefits without having to alter their energy usage and behaviour. VPhase therefore believes that the joint use of its voltage management device with smart meters can further improve household energy savings. The VPhase Smart Voltage Management product reduces and regulates incoming voltage. Testing has demonstrated that the product can cut typical electricity bills by up to 10% or more.
Adrian Hutchings, Executive Chairman of VPhase, says: "VPhase is very pleased to have secured the opportunity to brief Mr Miliband on the potential for Smart Voltage Management to be used in conjunction with smart metering to reduce our nation's energy consumption and carbon emissions. The UK Government's plan to equip 26 million UK homes with smart meters is particularly timely in a year when VPhase is expecting to roll out its product to the market. We believe that the large-scale commercialisation of smart meters will offer us the perfect window of opportunity to further emphasise the strength of our product, which can help households and businesses save energy in a smart, easy, and cost-effective way."
VPhase,a subsidiary of Energetix Group plc, is already working with two major UK utilities, Scottish & Southern Energy and British Gas, to introduce the VPhase Smart Voltage Management product into UK homes. The installation of domestic energy efficiency measures like VPhase is being boosted significantly by the Government's Carbon Emissions Reduction Target (CERT) programme, which expects to spend up to £1 billion on such measures over the next three years.

About VPhase plc
VPhase plc is a developer of a voltage control product that reduces the energy consumption of many domestic electrical appliances.
The Company has developed a product designed to be attached to the consumer unit (fuse box) in order to control the incoming voltage for selected circuits to a target set point of 220 volts. This is slightly higher than the minimum design point for electrical items in Europe, thereby ensuring that electrical appliances in the home operate closer to the voltage condition for which they were designed.
TestsbyVPhase have demonstrated that the product can save on average 10% of the electricity across a range of domestic products including fridges, freezers, central heating pumps, televisions and other items, even 'energy-saving' light bulbs. This should equate to savings for the typical homeowner of £50 per annum.
In addition, there is evidence that the life of electrical appliances can be extended by the use of this product; light bulbs, in particular, have demonstrated at least two times longer life when on a circuit managed by the voltage control product as compared to those without the voltage control product.
VPhase is a subsidiary of Energetix Group plc and was admitted to AIM in September 2007. It is based near Chester, NW England.
