Brewing Development Update

4th Jul 2006 14:38

Pursuit Dynamics PLC04 July 2006 4 July 2006 PURSUIT DYNAMICS plc ("Pursuit Dynamics") BREWING DEVELOPMENT UPDATE Pursuit Dynamics, the developer and licenser of the innovative and patented PDXtechnology, which has applications across a broad range of industries, ispleased to announce that it has signed an agreement with a major global brewer("the Brewer") to move to full-scale trials of its PDX wort boiling technology. Pursuit Dynamics, with the support of Brewing Research International ("BRI") andthe Brewer, has been developing a wort boiling solution for the brewing industrysince May 2005. Wort boiling is an energy-intensive part of the brewing process, which BRI estimates typically represents about 30% of a brewery's total energyconsumption. Pilot scale trials conducted with the Brewer over the past 14months have shown that the PDX technology has consistently delivered substantialenergy savings - indications are around 30% in the wort boiling process. In theevent that the scale-up trials are successful, these energy savings wouldrepresent approximately 10% of the energy requirement for the entire brewingprocess. The trials are scheduled to commence in September 2006 and will lastapproximately six months. The full scale PDX system comprises eight PDX 47 unitsin parallel and will operate in a 650-hectolitre (65,000 litres) copper. Commenting on the development, John Heathcote, Pursuit Dynamics' ChiefExecutive, said, "We are pleased to report this latest development in thecommercialisation of our PDX technology. Our system has consistently shownsubstantial cost savings in pilot scale trials in the brewing process and thisfull-scale trial represents what we hope is the last phase of proving the PDXtechnology in this application prior to commercialisation. This is an excitingdevelopment and, if successful, will result in a further major commercialapplication of the PDX technology alongside the fire suppression and food andbeverage applications." The core technology is based on a gas driven, supersonic shockwavethat produces a controllable mixing, heating and flow rate. Pursuit Dynamicsoperates as a research and development and licensing company and has alreadyproved the application of its system in the food industry. Its PDX Sonic fluid processing product, which is a highly efficient systemfor use in the manufacture of prepared foods and soft drinks, was launched inJanuary 2005 and has been licensed to a number of leading industry players inthe EU, USA and Central America. Other potential industry applications under development include applications forwaste treatment, brewing, pharmaceuticals, personal healthcare, on-line turbinewashing and oil and gas. In addition to its almost universal applicability to process flow manufacturingindustries, the technology has been adapted to address the very large marketsfor fire and explosion suppression. FireMist(R), Pursuit Dynamics' patentedproduct, the most effective of all commercially available water mist productionand distribution systems, can successfully extinguish Class A and B fires inbuilding and aircraft simulation fire tests. In December 2005, Pursuit grantedan exclusive global licence for FireMist to Tyco Fire & Building Products, adivision of Tyco International Ltd (NYSE: TYC; BSX: TYC), which is the worldleader in fire suppression. In July 2005, Pursuit announced the signing of a one year contract with DARPA, aUS governmental defence research agency to use its PDX(R) Basiliskdecontamination system. The system has a number of applications fordisinfection, human and animal healthcare and in the defence industry, principally in chemical and biological defence applications.
