The Go-Ahead Group plc
("Go-Ahead" or the "Group")
Go-Ahead Finance Director to join British Airways in March 2011
The Board of Go-Ahead today announces that Nick Swift, Group Finance Director, will be leaving the Group to join British Airways as Chief Financial Officer on 7 March 2011. Nick will remain with the Group until that date to complete the FY11 half year financial reporting and to help ensure an orderly succession.
Sir Patrick Brown, Chairman, said:
"On behalf of the Board, I should like to thank Nick for his significant contribution to the Group since he joined in July 2007. During this time, despite tough economic conditions, we have improved the Group's cashflows and strengthened our financing, leaving the Group in robust financial health. Looking to the future, the recruitment of a successor is underway and the Board intends to have the appointment in place in good time."
Keith Ludeman, Group Chief Executive, commented:
"I have thoroughly enjoyed working with Nick and we have achieved a great deal together. I understand why Nick felt he couldn't refuse this opportunity to return to the aviation sector, having started his career at Air New Zealand, and I wish him every success for the future."
Nick Swift said:
"Go-Ahead has been a great place to work and to get things done. I've been privileged to work with some of the best management in the industry, and would have definitely stayed longer if the role at BA had not come my way. In the meantime, it's business as usual for me at Go-Ahead until March."

Go-Ahead
Go-Ahead is a leading UK public transport operator, providing high quality services in the bus and rail sectors. Employing around 22,500 people across the country, over one billion passenger journeys are undertaken on our services each year. We are committed to operating our companies in a safe, socially and environmentally responsible way and are proud to have been awarded the Carbon Trust Standard after taking action on climate change. In addition to the travelling public, our customers include the Department for Transport, Transport for London (TfL) and local authorities.
BUS
Go-Ahead is one of the UK's largest bus operators. With a fleet of around 3,800 buses, we carry, on average, around 1.7 million passengers every day. Our operations are focused on high density commuter markets. We have a strong presence in London, with around 21% market share, where we provide regulated services for TfL. We operate deregulated services in the Oxford, the South East, Southern and North East England. We also have a yellow school bus joint venture in North America.
RAIL
The rail operation, Govia, is 65% owned by Go-Ahead and 35% by Keolis. It is the busiest rail operation in the UK, responsible for nearly 30% of all UK passenger rail journeys through its three rail franchises: Southern (which includes the Gatwick Express), Southeastern and London Midland. In December 2009, Southeastern began operating the UK's first high speed domestic rail service between Kent and London, significantly reducing journey times.
