HSBC Holdings PLC30 November 2007 HSBC HOLDINGS PLC - BOARD APPOINTMENT Jose Luis Duran (43) has been appointed a Director of HSBC Holdings plc witheffect from 1 January 2008. He will be an independent non-executive Director. Mr Duran is Chief Executive of Carrefour SA and Chairman of its Management Boardof Directors. He has worked with Carrefour since 1991, and has broad experiencein both developed and emerging markets. He has held a number of positions withinthe group's businesses in Spain, southern Europe and the Americas, and wasappointed Chief Financial Officer and Managing Director, Organisation andSystems in 2001. In 2005 he became Chief Executive and was appointed Chairman ofthe Management Board. The Carrefour group operates over 12,500 stores in 30 countries, and is theworld's second-largest retailer and the largest in Europe. The group operates inthree major markets - Europe, Latin America and Asia - and over half of itsturnover derives from countries outside France. This includes Brazil, where ithas operated since 1975, and China, a market it entered in 1995.
