Augean South HMRC Assessment Notification

Augean, one of the UK's leading specialist waste management businesses, has been issued with a final assessment from HMRC for Augean South Limited for a total amount of landfill tax of £16.2m (excluding interest) covering the period ending 28 February 2015 to 31 May 2018. There may be other final assessments for other time periods for Augean South.

This final assessment for Augean South is in addition to the final assessments for Augean North of £10.5m announced in October 2018.

The Group will appeal this Augean South assessment in the appropriate timescale. HMRC is considering whether penalties may be appropriate.

The Group acknowledge the positive and welcome news to issue the final assessment for Augean South Limited and maintain our position based on the legal advice received and independent reviews of our systems.

The Group will take all appropriate legal channels to challenge the assessment received and seek to mitigate payment of the tax until these legal appeals have concluded.
