AstraZeneca to invest £182m to expand drug plant in Sweden

Biopharmaceutical giant AstraZeneca has announced it will invest £182m to expand biotech drug manufacturing in Sweden.In a statement released on Monday, the FTSE 100 group said the new facility will be used to supply medicines for clinical trial programmes from the end of 2018, with delivery of finished products to begin 12 months later. The Anglo-Swedish group said the new plant, based in Sodertalje, which is already the company's biggest worldwide manufacturing facility for traditional tablets and capsules, will focus on filling and packaging of protein therapeutics. AstraZeneca added that it expected to create between 150 and 250 jobs at the plant over the next four years. AstraZeneca shares were up 0.49% to 4,389.00p at 10:23 on Monday.
