Max Petroleum PLC11 October 2006 MAX PETROLEUM PLC (AIM: MXP) APPOINTMENT OF NON- EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR Max Petroleum Plc ("Max Petroleum" or "the Company"), an oil and gas explorationand production company operating in Kazakhstan, is pleased to announce theappointment of a new Non-Executive Director. Maksut Narikbayev (aged 66) has been appointed as a Non-Executive Director ofMax Petroleum effective as of 10 October 2006. Mr. Narikbayev served as Chairmanof the Highest Judicial Board of Kazakhstan from 2003 to 2006, Chairman of theSupreme Court of Kazakhstan from 1996 to 2000, and as Prosecutor General ofKazakhstan from 1995 to 1996. Mr. Narikbayev is a qualified lawyer and hasauthored a wide range of books covering economic issues of the Supreme Court ofKazakhstan, criminal law, and the protection of civil rights. Dauren Myrzagaliyev has resigned from the Board as a Non-Executive Director inorder to serve as an employee of the Company advising on regulatory matters. There are no other requirements of AIM Rule Schedule 2(g) that fall to bedisclosed.
