Appointment of Group Chief Executive

The Board of Shanks Group plc ("Shanks" or "the Group") is pleased to announce the appointment of Peter Dilnot as Chief Executive. He succeeds Tom Drury, who left the Group in September, and will take up his new appointment on 1 February next year.

Mr Dilnot aged 42 has worked for Danaher Corporation since 2005 and is currently Group President, Emerging Markets, of its Gilbarco Veeder-Root subsidiary and President of Danaher Middle East. Danaher (www.danaher.com) is a NYSE-listed global diversified industrial group with annual sales of $13 billion. During his six years at Danaher, Mr Dilnot has delivered profitable growth, both organically and through the acquisition and integration of five businesses in Europe, India and Brazil.

Prior to joining Danaher, Mr Dilnot spent seven years at the Boston Consulting Group ("BCG"), working at its offices in London and Chicago across a range of industries. While at BCG, Mr Dilnot was a leader in its global Industrial and Sales & Marketing Practices.

Before joining BCG, Mr Dilnot spent nine years as an officer in the British Armed Forces. He originally trained as an Army helicopter pilot, and subsequently saw active service with both NATO and the UN. He holds a Degree in Mechanical Engineering from Bristol University and also graduated from the Royal Military Academy at Sandhurst.

Shanks confirms there is no further information to be disclosed under paragraph 9.6.13 of the Listing Rules with regard to this appointment.
