Kazakhmys PLC22 November 2006 Cardinal Place 100 Victoria Street London SW1E 5JL Tel +44(0)845 080 2369 Fax +44 (0)845 080 2572 22 November 2006 KAZAKHMYS PLC ANNOUNCES THE APPOINTMENT OF SIMON HEALE AS A NON-EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR Kazakhmys plc ("Kazakhmys" or the "Company") today announces the appointment ofSimon Heale to the Board as a non-executive director with effect from 1 January 2007. Mr Heale was Chief Executive of The London Metal Exchange Limited, the largestbase metals futures exchange in the world, from July 2001 to October 2006. Formuch of this period he was also a director of LCH Clearnet Group Limited. Mr Heale was previously Chief Operating Officer of Jardine Fleming Ltd and, prior to that, Deputy Managing Director of Cathay Pacific Airways Ltd. He is currently a non-executive director at The Morgan Crucible Company plc. Mr Heale will also be appointed to the Audit, Remuneration and NominationCommittees. With effect from 1 January 2007, Board Committee membership will be: James Rutland as Chairman of the Audit Committee with Messrs Aiken and Heale also being members. Lord Renwick as Chairman of the Remuneration Committee withMessrs Aiken and Heale also being members. The Chairman of the NominationCommittee will be Mr Kim, with Lord Renwick and Mr Heale being members. David Munro will be Chairman of the HSE Committee with its other members being Messrs Aiken and Rutland. Kazakhmys' Executive Chairman Vladimir Kim said, "We are delighted to welcome anon-executive director of Simon Heale's stature onto our Board.
