Lonmin PLC23 September 2005 23 September 2005 Lonmin Plc Lonmin appoints new non-executive Director The Board of Lonmin Plc is pleased to announce that Dr. Sivandran MunsamiGounden, Chief Executive Officer of Bateman Engineering BV has agreed to jointhe Board as a non-executive director with effect from 23 September 2005. Commenting on the appointment, Lonmin's Chairman, Sir John Craven said: "I am very pleased to welcome Dr. Gounden to Lonmin. His expertise, knowledgeand wide ranging business experience in South Africa will make Dr. Gounden avaluable addition to the Lonmin Board." Dr. Gounden is a trustee of the Deutsche Bank Africa Foundation and a directorof Grindrod Limited, a company listed on the Johannesburg Stock Exchange andBateman Engineering BV. In April 2001, he was awarded aDoctorate in Philosophy from the School of Engineering at the University ofNatal. His professional career has seen him focus on a range of developmentalprojects, both in the public and private sectors. Prior to joining the SouthAfrican Government in 1994, he spent a decade in the private sector, where heproject-led several large-scale urban infrastructure projects. In 1994, hejoined the Department of Public Works, where he initiated the concept ofpublic-private partnerships, and a review of the Built Environment professions.The latter resulted in a fundamental change to the legal framework that governsthe various Built Environment professions. He was also instrumental inchampioning public sector procurement reform, and was responsible forco-authoring Government's green paper on Public Sector Procurement in 1996. In 1999, he was appointed Director-General of the newly established Departmentof Public Enterprises, and was responsible for the restructuring of State OwnedEnterprises in key sectors of the economy, such as transport,telecommunications, energy and defence. In June 2003 he left the public sectorto join Bateman BV, a global process engineering company as its Chief ExecutiveOfficer responsible for its operations worldwide.
