Appointment of Chairman

Embargoed for release: 27 September 2013 at 07.00 Northern Petroleum Plc ("Northern", "the Company") Appointment of Chairman Northern Petroleum Plc (AIM: NOP) announces that Jon Murphy has been appointedas Non-executive Chairman of the Company, with immediate effect. Jon has over30 years of experience in the exploration and production industry. In 1999, Jon joined Venture Production plc as a board director in the role ofChief Operating Officer. He played a key role in Venture's growth from aprivate equity-backed small business, through its flotation in 2002, and on tothe sale of the business to Centrica for approximately £1.3 billion in 2009. Jon holds a B.Sc. in Geology from the University of London and began his careerin 1979 as a logging geologist. Jon spent his early industry years in the NorthSea and South-East Asia before moving to Lasmo plc in 1989 where he heldseveral positions in geology, planning and new business, while being based inboth the UK and Asia. Jon is currently a Non-executive Director of AIM quoted Trinity Exploration andProduction plc, having been closely involved with its growth since inception.
